Intercontinental Hotels Group announced the grand opening of the InterContinental Shanghai NECC in the Hongqiao CBD. Just five kilometers from the Hongqiao International Airport and Hongqiao Railway Station, the hotel is strategically located near the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone and is also close to several tourist attractions, such as the Qibao Ancient Town, Zhujiajiao Watertown and the Shanghai Outlets Mall. InterContinental Shanghai NECC is the first luxury hotel located within Shanghai’s new National Exhibition and Convention Centre (NECC), the largest single building and exhibition complex in the world. The hotel offers 492 rooms and 44 suites, four restaurants and lounges, and more than 2,200 square meters of event space. InterContinental Shanghai NECC is the fifth InterContinental hotel in Shanghai and the 38th property under the Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts brand in Greater China.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts has announced the signing of two hotels in Singapore, under the Luxury Collection and Tribute Portfolio brands. In partnership with boutique developers Harpreet and Satinder Garcha, the two distinctive properties showcase adaptive reuse of Singapore’s iconic heritage buildings. The Duxton Club, a Luxury Collection hotel will reside in two early 19th century buildings – The Duxton House and The Duxton Terrace, which are about 200 meters apart and adjacent to the developing central business district of Tanjong Pagar. Scheduled to open in early 2017, The Duxton House will feature 50 rooms in eight adjoining three-storey buildings, an all-day dining restaurant, a signature bar and a private cigar room. The Duxton Terrace, slated to open in July 2017, will offer an additional 138 rooms, in fourteen adjoining three- and four-storey buildings, along with five food and beverage venues, a swimming pool, a fitness center and a cigar room.
The second project – Hôtel Vagabond, which is currently undergoing a rebranding exercise, will be unveiled as a Tribute Portfolio hotel in October this year. The hotel is located on Syed Alwi Road in Jalan Besar, just outside Singapore’s CBD. A row of 1950 Art Deco shophouses, this 41-room boutique property marks the first and only hotel in Asia to feature interiors by celebrated French designer, Jacques Garcia. Additionally, the hotel will feature the Vagabond Salon, a modern interpretation of a Parisian salon, with 5,000 square feet of versatile event space.

Swiss-Belhotel International will mark its entry into the Australian market with the launch of the Swiss-Belhotel Brisbane, in October 2016. The new-build hotel will be situated in South Brisbane, with convenient access to the Southbank Parklands, Brisbane Convention & Entertainment, and the QLD Performing Arts Complex. The hotel will feature 134 guestrooms, two meeting rooms, an indoor swimming pool, a gymnasium and an all-day dining restaurant. The hotel will become the company’s second property in Australasia, following the Swiss-Belresort Coronet Peak in New Zealand. According to Swiss-Belhotel’s Chairman and President, Gavin Faull, the company plans to develop at least ten more hotels in Australia within the next five years.

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces launched The Gateway Resort Pushkar Bypass Ajmer in Ajmer, Rajasthan, earlier this week. Located 15 kilometers north of Ajmer Railway Station and 140 kilometers southwest of Jaipur Airport, the resort features 81 guest rooms and suites, an all-day dining restaurant, 5,750 square feet of meeting space, a swimming pool, a fitness centre, a spa as well as in-room yoga facilities. The resort has been built and designed to reflect the culture and history of Rajasthan. Pushkar and Ajmer are amongst the oldest cities in Rajasthan, and are known for their places of historical and spiritual importance. Ajmer is also home to a number of educational institutions, some dating back to the British rule in India. Both cities receive a large number of leisure tourists annually.

Earlier this week, Sokha Hotels and Resorts announced the soft opening of the Sokha Siem Reap Resort & Convention Center. The resort is conveniently located on Siem Reap’s famous Road No. 60 and within walking distance to the Kuong Yu Market. Featuring 776 rooms and suites and with a total area of around 23 hectares, Sokha Siem Reap Resort & Convention Center becomes the city’s largest resort property. Additional facilities at the resort include a 2,200 square meter ballroom and multiple individual meeting rooms, three restaurants, a 1,000 square meter swimming pool, as well as a spa and fitness center offering the largest wellness facility in Siem Reap. The Sokha Siem Reap Resort and Convention Center is the second property in Siem Reap to become part of the Sokha brand, after the Sokha Angkor Resort which opened in 2006.
