Tiger Airways Unveils New Brand Identity: Tigerair Return to Headlines

Low-cost carrier Tiger Airways has unveiled its new brand identity, Tigerair. The rebranding campaign aims to reflect a more contemporary look and feel and comes as the airline is in the process of being partially bought over by Virgin Australia, which will buy 60 per cent of the airline from Tiger Airways Holdings. The airline's four regional hubs will be renamed as Tigerair (Singapore), Tigerair Australia, Tigerair Philippines and Tigerair Mandala (Indonesia). The airline's website has also been revamped to reflect the new brand identity.

 
Minor Acquires Per AQUUM Stake Return to Headlines

Minor Hotel Group has acquired a 50 per cent stake in luxury resort operator, Per AQUUM. The deal cost US$4 million and Minor will join forces with Per AQUUM's current owner Universal Enterprises Pty Ltd, to jointly develop and expand the brand across Asia and the Indian Ocean. Per AQUUM currently operates three properties in the Maldives and Dubai, and plans to expand the brand to at least eight properties following this acquisition. Minor's portfolio will now expand to 91 properties in 12 countries under four brands, including Per AQUUM. The deal marks the third recent acquisition for Minor, which acquired a 54.3 per cent in Australia's Oaks Hotels & Resorts in 2011 and the purchase of Vietnam-based Life Resorts earlier this year.

 
FEOrchard takes on Australia with new JV Return to Headlines

Far East Orchard (FEOrchard) is waiting for shareholder approval for two joint ventures that will significantly expand its hospitality management business in Australia. FEOrchard is currently in talks to enter a joint venture with Australian property management firm, Toga Group for A$255 million (US$204.1 million). The joint venture will own Toga's hospitality management business which includes management of more than 50 hotels and serviced residences across Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Denmark under the brands Medina, Adina and Vibe. In April this year, FEOrchard had announced that it was entering a joint venture with Straits Trading Company, with FEOrchard holding a 70 per cent stake. If the joint ventures with Straits Trading and Toga are both approved by shareholders, FEOrchard's existing portfolio will grow from approximately 3,600 rooms under management across 18 hotels and serviced apartments to a combined portfolio of more than 13,000 rooms under management across 80 hotels and serviced apartments.

 
DreamWorks launches at Sands Macau Return to Headlines

Dreamworks has launched at the Sands Cotai Central integrated resort in Macau. Supported by the Macau Government Tourist Office, the new family attraction is the result of an alliance between Sands China Ltd. and DreamWorks Animation. The new DreamWorks Experience will allow guests to meet characters from DreamWorks' movies with daily parades. Sands Cotai Central will also offer a series of accommodation packages to tie-in with the new attraction, such as DreamWorks-themed breakfasts and movie nights.

 
Swiss-Garden to Expand in Malaysia Return to Headlines

Malaysia-based Swiss-Garden International is embarking on an expansion plan to strengthen its presence in Malaysia with the addition of six more properties to its portfolio. The group currently has 12 hotels and serviced apartments and an inventory of 2,500 rooms. The bulk of its properties are concentrated in Malaysia, with the exception of one in Sydney. The expansion will increase Swiss-Garden International's total room inventory by 70 per cent. The six new properties are slated to be completed within the next three years and will be located in Malacca, Cameron Highlands, Kuala Lumpur, Kuantan, Kota Bharu and Damai Laut. The company also plans to expand overseas into countries like Vietnam and China in the long-term.
