HVS Launches 2008 with Three New Offices Around the Globe - Dubai, Moscow, Chicago

Steve Rushmore, President, Founder, and CEO of HVS, the global leader for hospitality consulting and services, is pleased to announce the opening of three new offices – Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Moscow, Russia; and Chicago, United States.

  • Ms. Hala Matar Choufany will direct HVS Dubai, the company’s first presence in the Middle East. This office will be responsible for the firm’s valuation and consulting work in the Middle East and Egypt. Hala joined the HVS London office in 2005 and then moved to HVS Shanghai in 2006, where she helped strengthen HVS business in Asia. Since joining HVS, she has worked on several mid- and large-scale mixed-use developments, conducted numerous valuations, feasibility studies, and operator searches, and provided strategic advice, return on investment, and market studies in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Prior to joining HVS, Hala had four years of operation and managerial hotel industry experience and one year of consulting experience in the Middle East, with firms including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Al-Kharafi Holdings, and Hard Rock Cafe. She has lectured at Notre Dame University in Lebanon, her native country, on International Travel & Tourism.

“An HVS presence in Dubai is critical,” according to Rushmore. “In the last three years alone, our London office has doubled the number of consultants specializing in the Middle East region because of its growing importance in the world of hotel development.”

Hala holds an MPhil from Leeds Metropolitan University, United Kingdom; an MBA from IMHI (ESSEC – Cornell) University, Paris, France; and a BA in Hospitality Management from Notre Dame University, Lebanon. Hala can be contacted at hchoufany@hvs.com.

  • Ms. Tatiana Veller serves as Managing Director of the HVS Executive Search office in Moscow, Russia, an office specializing in executive search and compensation consulting for all facets of the hospitality industry in Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and the Baltics. Prior to joining HVS in 2006, Tatiana was involved in executive search in the United States and also has six years experience in managerial positions at the property and corporate levels in the U.S. and
Russia, with companies including Radisson, Hyatt, LSG Skychefs, and The Lucas Group (Executive Search).

“HVS had been handling more and more assignments in Russia and the region,” explains Rushmore, “and we see tremendous future potential for an Executive Search office in this market. All the major international hotel groups have been entering the region, and we are also seeing the emergence of several interesting ‘home-grown’ companies. They all need strong talent, and with local expertise in Moscow, we are now well situated to support these efforts.”

Tatiana holds a Bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from the Russian Academy of Economics, as well as an MBA in International Business from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis. Tatiana can be reached at tveller@hvs.com.
  • Mr. Hans Detlefsen, MPP, who has been in the Convention, Sports & Entertainment Facilities Consulting service of HVS since 2002, will now lead the HVS Consulting and Valuation office in Chicago, Illinois. As the third-largest city in the United States, Chicago is home to a critical concentration of financial firms, real estate investment firms, and architecture, design, and management companies that serve the hospitality industry. Consulting and valuation services offered in this office range from small, independent hotels to 1,000-room convention headquarters hotels in major urban markets. Chicago’s Consulting and Valuation office will also offer specialized expertise in evaluating hotel conference centers and convention headquarters hotels through its partnership with the HVS Convention, Sports & Entertainment Facilities Consulting division, also located in Chicago.

“An HVS expansion into Chicago solidifies our firm’s presence in the central United States,” notes Rushmore. “Our work is global, and yet our office presence and expertise are very localized, making us true experts in specific regions of the country, and allowing us to be geographically closer to our clients.”

Hans is a certified general real estate appraiser in Illinois, with reciprocity licensing in 14 states. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and his Masters in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. Hans can be reached at hdetlefsen@hvs.com.

HVS focuses on the hotel, restaurant, shared ownership, gaming, and leisure industries. Established in 1980, the company performed more than 3,800 assignments worldwide in 2007 for virtually every major industry participant. HVS is client driven, entrepreneurial, and dedicated to providing the best advice and services in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
