South America Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference Proves Continued Success With Record Participation in Lima, Peru

The annual SAHIC conference was held at the Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center in Lima September 10 - 11 and was attended by 500 top executives from the leading international hotel and real estate groups.

A record number of more than 500 participants from Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Peru, Mexico, Uruguay, Bolivia, the United States, and Spain attended the fifth edition of SAHIC - the South American Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference. The Conference was organized by HVS in South America and was sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) of Peru, where this event was hosted for the first time.

There were high expectations for the conference in Peru, but results indicate that those were certainly exceeded,” said Arturo García Rosa, president of SAHIC and HVS in South America. “I think that Peru has been a well-kept secret and received immediate interest. In my opinion, choosing Lima to host SAHIC 2012 was the right choice. People are very keen on seizing the opportunities offered in Peru,” he added.

Regarding the prospects for the sector in the region, García Rosa pointed out that “it is a fact that South America is going through very special times within the global economic scenario. Our countries were not hit by the housing bubble crisis of 2008 as they were indeed by previous crises, neither have they been affected by this new crisis; therefore, the future looks promising.”

The conference featured prominent executives in the industry including Roland de Bonadona, CEO Latin America, Accor; Daniel del Olmo, SVP and Managing Director, Latin America and & Brand SVP, TRYP by Wyndham, Wyndham Hotel Group; Thorsten Kirschke, President, Americas, Carlson Hotels; Deborah Négrel, Vice President, Caribbean & Latin America Development MGM Hospitality; Patrick McCudden, Senior Vice President, Real Estate & Development Latin America, Global Hyatt Corporation; Ricardo Montaudon, President & Executive Director, RCI Latin America); and Jaume Tapies, President, Relais & Chateau, among others.

SAHIC has proven the ideal venue to promote the South America region as a hospitality investment opportunity. SAHIC has welcomed key industry players, executives from major international holdings, and investors to explore new projects, develop business contacts and relationships.

Additionally, as it is customary at SAHIC, a series of awards were presented to projects, organizations, companies, and people who have contributed to the development of the hotel and tourism industry in the region. García Rosa presented the SAHIC 2012 Awards to:
