HVS International Sydney Negotiates Hotel Management Contract in Upper Hunter Valley, Australia

Owner and developer Glowmelt Pty Ltd and Accor Hotels today signed a management agreement for the Mercure Hotel and Conference Centre in Muswellbrook, in the Upper Hunter Valley, Australia.
The 158-room Mercure Hotel and Conference Centre, which is surrounded by natural bushland, borders the Eastbrook Links Estate and is located opposite the Muswellbrook Golf Course, will provide a range of accommodation facilities, conference facilities for up to 400 people, a restaurant and casual pub, and a health club with gym, spa, sauna, beauty salon, massage rooms and both indoor and outdoor pools. Additional features include a cinema/theatre, a tourist information and wine centre, while an adjacent two-level tavern is set to become a favorite watering hotel for local residents, with a bar, lounge, bistro, gaming area and top-floor cocktail bar catering for all tastes. While the Upper Hunter Valley has yet to fully capitalize on its tourism and destination potential in the same way as Pokolbin or Cessnock in the Lower Hunter Valley, the area surrounding the hotel already features many sites that are attractive to both the leisure and conference markets. These include numerous wineries, vineyards and olive groves, coal mines, stud farms, the Barrington Tops and Wollemi National Parks and the Skellatar Park Racecourse. Rutger Smits of HVS International in Sydney, who negotiated the management contract, commented: "We are very pleased with this result and firmly believe that, with the brand strength of Mercure and support of Accor management, this will be a successful development that will significantly elevate the competitive position of the Upper Hunter Valley in the corporate and leisure markets". Development is slated to begin in mid-2004, with an expected completion towards mid-2006.
