Singapore-Based Buxani Group Invests in Scottish Hotel

Singapore-based private investment group Buxani Group (“Buxani”) has completed the acquisition of the 117-key GoGlasgow Urban Hotel from Scotland-based Crerar Hotel Group (“Crerar”), in an off-market deal to Asian buyers, for approximately £10 million. The GoGlasgow Urban Hotel is located near Ibrox stadium on Paisley Road West and was redeveloped by Crerar in 2015. Post-acquisition, the property will be managed by Thailand-based Compass Hospitality. GoGlasgow Urban Hotel is the first of a series of hotel investments that Buxani has targeted for the UK hotel market. They will be actively looking for more hotel opportunities in both the UK and Europe.

Japan Airlines to Launch Low-Cost Carrier Ahead of 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Japan-based Japan Airlines Co., Ltd., (“JAL”) has announced plans to launch a low-cost carrier (“LCC”) ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, aiming to tap growing Asian demand for budget air travel. Based at Narita International Airport, the as-yet unnamed airline will operate medium to long-haul international routes to select destinations in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. With plans to operate two wide-body Boeing 787-8 aircrafts in the first stages, the new LCC will complement its existing low-cost operations, Jetstar Japan, which only features domestic and short-haul international routes. To date, JAL had limited its low-cost operations to its minority stake in Jetstar Japan, a joint venture with Qantas Airways. JAL aims to have outside investors in its new LCC, which will become a consolidated subsidiary of JAL. Japan’s LCC market has been expanding of late and in March 2018, All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd., (“ANA”) announced plans to integrate its LCC affiliates. Scheduled to begin services in 2020, Peach Aviation and Vanilla Air will operate under the Peach brand and will feature medium-length international routes.

Central Group Acquires 22.93% Stake in Dusit Thani

With 194.9 million shares, the deal makes CPN the second-largest shareholder in Dusit Thani after local private equity investor, Chanut & Children, who remains the operator of Dusit Thani’s business with a 49.74% stake. CPN has stated that the deal is a long-term investment and it is not involved in any business management at Dusit Thani. Last March, CPN joined Dusit Thani to develop a mixed-use project worth approximately 36.7 billion baht (US$1.15 billion) on land it leases in Bangkok from the Crown Property Bureau.
