A Managing Director, Senior Partner with HVS and head of the firm’s hotel consulting and valuation office in St. Louis, Dan McCoy’s career in hospitality has crossed cities, towns, and tundra. Dan’s hotel appraisal expertise spans roadside motels, beachside resorts, full-service metropolitan hotels, wilderness retreats, and virtually every type of property in between. His hotel value conclusions and expert testimony have proven accurate and reliable again and again over the course of hundreds of assignments for satisfied clients. When you need not only answers concerning your hotel ambitions but a rock-solid report on how those answers were derived, turn to Dan.
A native of St. Louis, Dan graduated from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri and began his hotel consulting and valuation career with HVS in 2006. Though he has worked in markets from Florida to Alaska, Dan has honed his expertise on primary and secondary markets throughout the Midwest and Mid-South. He has published articles on hotel markets across the region, including St. Louis, Kansas City, and Nashville, as well as on the viability of mid-scale hotels in the wake of an economic downturn. Dan has served as a speaker and panelist at major lodging conferences and hosted the 2012 HVS Regional Hotel Valuation Summit in St. Louis. His prior hospitality experience includes work for Hilton and Denali Park Resorts. Dan is a Designated Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) and a certified general appraiser in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
Dan lived all over the U.S., including in Maine, Colorado, Alaska, and Pennsylvania, before returning to his hometown of St. Louis. He still enjoys snowboarding and hiking on return trips to the mountains. At home, Dan spends his free time with family, volunteering at the Saint Patrick Center, and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.
