HVS CHICOS and Bermuda Tourism Authority to Contribute to Caribbean Relief Efforts

New York, New York (October 4, 2017): In light of the recent tragedies affecting the Caribbean region, the Caribbean Hotel Investment Conference & Operations Summit (HVS CHICOS) has made a donation to the Rotary Foundation of the Caribbean in support of relief and recovery efforts for islands impacted by the recent storms. Additionally, representing a nation unaffected by the current natural disasters, the Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) has matched the HVS CHICOS donation to assist its brothers and sisters in the region. Given its Atlantic location, Bermuda is more than 1,000 miles out of the path of the recent storms and is fortunately safe and welcoming visitors.
“As Chairman of CHICOS, a native of the Caribbean and frequent resident, visitor and traveler, the sustainability of the region is of utmost and personal importance to me,” says Parris Jordan, Chairman of HVS CHICOS. “Having been through challenging hurricane situations in the past, I have personal experience working directly with the Rotary Foundation in the Caribbean, and I have the utmost confidence that our contributions will be used effectively and efficiently.”
Jordan will also serve on the Rotary Foundation’s Advisory Committee to ensure the funds are allocated as they were planned.
“Our heart beats with a Caribbean rhythm – we have family, friends and colleagues greatly impacted by Irma and Maria," says Kevin Dallas, Chief Executive Officer of the Bermuda Tourism Authority. “In addition to joining forces with CHICOS in matching the donation to the Rotary Foundation, we are pitching in to help islands bounce back. We’ve dispatched soldiers from the Royal Bermuda Regiment to aid in recovery, deployed electric company professionals to get power restored, donated funds and goods to those in need, and provided refuge out here for some of those whose homes are lost.”
The Rotary Foundation, which has a history of operating in the region with nations impacted by hurricanes, is working to provide impacted countries with necessities such as water, canned food, and clothing. The organization has outstanding ratings, being named by CNBC as one of the “Top 10 Charities in the World.” Every dollar of the proceeds received will be donated directly to beneficiaries in the Caribbean.
