2nd Tourism, Hotel Investment & Networking Conference (THINC) Indonesia Successfully Concludes  

Hosted by HVS, the 2nd edition of THINC Indonesia, which took place on 2 and 3 September 2015 at the Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort, concluded on a high note. The two-day conference lived up to its reputation of being a one-of-a-kind hospitality event in Indonesia, once again creating a unique platform to deliberate on the development and direction of the hotel and tourism industry in the region. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), the conference brought together close to 250 industry stakeholders, business leaders and key decision-makers from across 15 nations. The THINC Indonesia Organizing Committee expresses its heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors, partners, speakers and delegates for their valued support, and for contributing towards an immensely successful 2015 event.

Plateno Group Signs Its Second Portofino in Sri Lanka 

China-based hotel company Plateno Group has entered into a management contract with Welcome Regency Ltd. to manage a 102-room resort in Passikudah, Sri Lanka. The resort is anticipated to commence operations in November 2015 and will be called the Portofino Ming Gee Resort Passikudah. The property will feature two F&B outlets, a spa, a swimming pool, and a water sports and diving center. The hotel will become the second Portofino in Sri Lanka, with the first having opened in Tangalle earlier this year.

Starwood to Sell the Westin Excelsior Rome  

Katara Hospitality has agreed to purchase the Westin Excelsior Rome in Italy from Starwood Hotels & Resorts for €222 million (€702,500 per room). Starwood will continue to operate the 316-room hotel, on Via Veneto, under a new long-term management agreement. The historic property, which opened in 1906, will undergo an extensive renovation over the next five years. Katara now owns three hotels across Italy.
