Mekong Tourism Forum 2016 

Themed ‘Authentic Experiences along the Mekong River’, the Mekong Tourism Forum (MTF) will be hosted by the Cambodia Ministry of Tourism in Sinhanoukville from 5 to 7 July. The forum serves as a platform for the six member countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) to effectively market the GMS as a single destination. MTF2016 will feature educational and interactive sessions including the Mekong Tourism Marketing Workshop with a focus on authentic experiences in the GMS, the Mekong Tourism Digital Bootcamp produced by DIA/Digi.travel, the Mekong Food Tourism Seminar produced by Bangkok-based Thammasat University, and the Mekong Tourism Investment Summit. The Investment Summit, to be held on 7 July at the Sokha Beach Resort, will comprise interactive panel discussions from various key players in the GMS tourism industry and provide opportunity for stakeholders to promote their countries and companies for potential partnerships and foreign investment. Paola Orneli Bock, Vice President, HVS who heads the firm’s Bangkok office will be moderating the panel on hotel investment in the GMS, which will feature key players in the industry exchange their views on investment trends in the region.

The Ascott Continues Expansion in Asia with 7 New Properties 

CapitaLand's wholly owned serviced residences business unit, The Ascott, has secured seven new management contracts across seven cities in Asia – Karawang in Indonesia, Putrajaya in Malaysia, Danang in Vietnam, Tokyo in Japan, and Changsha, Shanghai and Shaoxing in China. Lee Chee Koon, Chief Executive Officer of The Ascott Limited, commented “The addition of these seven management contracts will boost our income from management fees. With a strong reputation built for our award-winning brands and the value we provide to property owners through our expertise in design, operations, global sales and marketing, as well as our experience in managing properties worldwide, we are confident of achieving our target of 80,000 units globally by 2020,” The new serviced residences contract will strengthen The Ascott's presence in existing markets, such as Danang, Changsha, Shanghai and Tokyo, as well as introduce the brand name to two new cities in Asia.

Kensington Hotel Rebrand to Holiday Inn  

InterContinental Hotels Group has signed a franchise agreement with Kensington Close Hotel Ltd to operate the 694-room Kensington Close Hotel, one of the biggest hotels in London, and rebrand it as the Holiday Inn London Kensington. IHG director of development UK and Ireland, Philip Lassman, commented, “IHG is delighted to be partnering with Kensington Close Hotel Limited, owners of this landmark hotel. I am delighted that they have chosen IHG as their first franchise partner. Holiday Inn is one of the most iconic hotel brands in the world and the Open Lobby is going to create the perfect space for Kensington visitors and residents to come together.
