Overview
Russell has more than 45 years’ experience of the UK and international hotel and hospitality sector. After graduating from hotel school, he worked with Strand Hotels (4 years), followed by periods spent with the hotel consulting divisions of Stoy Hayward (10 years) and Deloitte (7½ years).
Since 1995, he has been responsible for hotel valuation, operational reviews, asset management and consulting work in HVS’s London office. He was appointed managing director in 1996 and became chairman in 2012. Russell is a Fellow and Registered Valuer of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and a director of the International Hotel Investment Council. He received Lifetime Achievement Awards in 2011 and 2017 and is a frequent speaker and moderator at hotel industry conferences.
For the past 30 years Russell has been responsible for HVS’s work in Israel and maintains a home there. He has carried out a number of hotel appraisals in Tel Aviv, Herzliya, Jerusalem, Eilat, Mount Arbel (Galilee area), Netanya and other locations in both the north and south of the country, and has spoken at a number of major conferences in Israel on the country's hotel opportunities, marketing and values. He is the co-author of HVS’s annual Israel Hotel Market Overview report, last published in June 2023.
He was a member of the advisory board and a key speaker for the Israel Hotel Investment Summit, last held in November 2022 in Tel Aviv. For the past two years, he has advised the Abraham Accords Peace Institute on ways to develop tourism within the region.
Consulting Experience
Russell Kett is Chairman of the London office of HVS, having joined the firm in 1995. He was appointed managing director in 1996 and became chairman in 2012. He has 40 years’ specialist hotel consultancy, investment and real estate experience, focused on providing valuation, feasibility, shared ownership, property, brokerage, investment, asset management, strategy and related consultancy services, advising hotel, serviced apartments and hostel companies, banks, developers and investors on all aspects of their hospitality industry related interests, throughout the EMEA region. Russell is a frequent writer, moderator and speaker on the international hotel industry, especially topics relating to hotel valuation, investment, marketing and finance. Russell received a Lifetime Achievement Award from HOSPA, the hospitality professionals’ association, in 2011. He received the ‘Hall of Fame’ Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hot.E hotel investment conference in London in 2017. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS) and a member of the International Hotel Investment Council.
