Gary Johnson is a Senior Vice President in the Miami office of HVS, and for the Shared Ownership Services division of the firm. For nearly 30 years, Gary has been an active participant in the management, consulting, and valuation sectors of the hotel industry.
Specializing in hotel and shared ownership real estate asset advisory and valuation services, Gary has consulted on and/or valued more than 250 hotel and mixed-use developments located in more than 20 states and 10 countries. After the devastating hurricane in Haiti in 2012, Gary was actively involved in providing both consulting and valuation services to developers focused on rebuilding the hotel and tourism industries in the country.
With significant expertise in shared ownership real estate, including private residence clubs, fractional, and timeshare properties, Gary has consulted for many of the major vacation ownership brands including Hilton Grand Vacation Club, Hyatt Vacation Club, Wyndham Vacation Resorts, Westgate Resorts, Bluegreen Vacations, and Welk Resorts. Gary was also part of the Shared Ownership Services team which conducted the valuation of the entire Hilton Grand Vacation Club operation when the Hilton organization was purchased by Blackstone in 2007.
Prior to joining the HVS Florida team in 2004, Gary worked as the Assistant to the Director of Operations for Luxbury Hotels, a regional hotel company based in Cincinnati, Ohio where he gained experience in hotel operations and sales and marketing. In this role, Gary would also serve as the Interim General Manager at several of the company’s hotels when they were between permanent general managers. It was with Luxbury that Gary gained experience in all departments of hotel operations.
Gary earned his Bachelor Degree from Southern University in Tennessee, and holds a Florida license as a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser. During his career in the hotel sector, Gary has lived in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee and Florida. He loves to travel in his free time and has visited 45 of the 50 states, as well as a large part of Europe. A native of Iowa, Gary remains an avid supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
