Hotel appraisals invoke the art of deduction. The value of your hotel is the unknown. HVS experts like Shannon Sampson, steeped in market knowledge and appraisal expertise, dig deep to produce the answer. As Senior Vice President and Director of HVS Austin, Shannon delves into every detail concerning your hotel’s performance, market dynamics, and value, whether it’s a full-service property or an even more complex asset with multiple profit centers such as a convention hotel or resort. He knows firsthand how successful hotels function and the market forces that drive values up as well as down. From fieldwork to the preparation of advanced models for the final valuation analysis, Shannon’s insights will give you confidence in how to move your hotel project forward.
Based in the heart of Austin, Shannon has conducted hundreds of full-service hotel appraisal assignments, as well as feasibility studies and market studies for proposed hotel projects across Texas. His keen analysis of market factors helped pave the way for the November 11, 2011 opening of the Omni Dallas Convention Center Hotel and the Fairmont Austin convention hotel, currently under construction downtown. Shannon has also covered many assignments for non-gaming hotels (as opposed to casino hotels) in Las Vegas. Shannon’s background includes frontline experience in hotel operations and management, and he has authored articles on Texas hotel markets and on how smart yield management can strengthen a hotel’s earnings and value. Shannon earned his bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin.
While active with the U.S. Army, Shannon traveled to Germany, France, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. Along with a friend in Houston, he annually donates to and caters a Texas smoked barbeque dinner for 150 people, benefiting the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC). He also volunteers at a shelter for women and children in his hometown of Austin. Shannon’s recreational interests include boating on Lake Travis and the other Highland Lakes in the spring and summer, heading out to Longhorn football games in the fall, and annually attending the world’s largest livestock show and rodeo: Rodeo Houston.
